World Amateur Golfers Championship 2015

Competing against golfers from 35 countries, 5 Vietnamese golfers had a great perfomance to finish third in the at the Team Championship World Amateur Golfers Championship 2015 held in Belek, Antalya, Turkey from November 28 to December 5. Malaysia won the first prize with a combined total of 851 strokes, seven better than Singapore.

This is a big achivement as the Vietnam Team only ranked 4th at the last year’s championship which was held in South Africa. Hoang Hung Son, head of the team said that at the end of second day, Vietnam still ranked fourth. With the ‘full-scale attack’ tactic, the team spectacularly won the 3rd place. Nguyen Nhu Nguyen said: “It is wonderful. The result is the deserved reward for us in competing.”

Particularly, most of Vietnamese golfers had a very good results, Nguyen Nhu Nguyen was champion in Group E of WAGC (official tournament) for his three day achievements of 9-under par, 8-under par, and 11-over par, respectively (nett 63; 64; 83). Golf Hoang Hung Son finishes 3rd in group E WAGI (Guest Division) with the score after three days of competition of 1-over par, 1-over par, 4-under par, respectively (nett 73, 73, 68)

In addition to a great performance, the vietnam team also impressed golf teams from all round the world by the professional preparation. The organisers invited them to join an interview with the US and Russia teams.

WAGC 2015 was held over six days, this year over 200 participants from 40 countries competed at Turkey’s finest golf courses — Lykia Links Course, Gloria New Golf Course and Gloria Old Golf Course. Results from competition in the first three days were used to separately calculate winners for each course. Final results are based on total points after each day of the tournament. The tournament is played over 72 holes (like professional PGA tournaments) with handicap adjustments between each round .

The tournament begins as a national championship in countries around the world where the winners from five handicap flights in each country becomes National Champions of their flight and represents their national team as well as individually within their flights. The flights are:  0 – 5.4, 5.5 – 10.4, 10.5 – 15.4, 15.5 – 20.4 and 20.5 – 25.4.

In Vietnam, after the final round of TP Bank Amateur World Golfers Championship Vietnam 2015 which was held at Heron Lake Golf Course & Resort, Vinh Phuc, 5 golfers who had the best results in each their categories: Do Viet Hung, Luu Xuan Loc, Phan Thanh Hai, Nguyen Hong Ngan, Nguyen Nhu Nguyen represented for thousands of Vietnamese amateur golfers at the World Amateur Golf Championship.
