October 6th 2015, the General Department of Sports and Physical Training, belonging to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Viet Nam, recently hosted a press conference to introduce the details of one of the biggest golf tournament of the year – the 2015 Vietnam Women’s Open Amateur Championship.
The championship will be held at Da Lat Golf Palace, Lam Dong Province from October 30th – November 1st, 2015 (including one day of training and two days of competition).
The Championship shall consist of 36 holes, played over a period of two days and play from red tees. Participants will be divided into 3 divisions: National Championship (Vietnamese only), Foreigners and Middle- Aged. The event is limited to players with HDC USGA Index of 36 for Vietnamese and HDC Index of 30 for foreign golfers.
In addition to the usual prizes include Best gross, 1st 2nd 3rd in 3 Divisions…, there will be some new prizes such as Best Team to create more attraction as well as increase competitiveness among players.
After the first Championship which was held in 2012, this is the fourth year for the tournament. This year’s tournament continues to receive the strong response from golfers across the country, more than 100 golfers have already signed up for the tournament and the number of participants is increasing daily.
During the last three years, many great female golfers have been found, contributing to the overall success of golf in Vietnam such as Tran Thi Thanh (2012 winner), Ngo Ngoc Nhi (2013 winner) or Nguyen Thao My who became the champion of the tournament when she was just 16 years old.
This year, Ms. Tang Thi Nhung – Vietnam’s first & most successful female pro golfer will be member of The Board of Advisors .
Speaking during a press conference , Mr Nguyen Van Hao – General Secretary, Vietnam Golf Association, said: “This is the leading golf tournament in Vietnam for female amateur golfers, The winners will be determined on the basis of the best score, gross or net as applicable. With the efforts of the golf tournament organizers and female golfers nationwide, the 2015 Vietnam Women’s Open Amateur Championship will contribute positively towards the growth and development of professional golf in Vietnam, a nation which has great potential to unearth new and young talents. The tournament will lay the foundation to the dream of seeing a Vietnamese golfer qualifying for the Olympics in the near future.”
