Golf is an extremely positive sport that will provide children with a long list of benefits. When playing golf, they are not only learning about a sport but also learning valuable life lessons: good manners, patience, sportsmanship, concentration and discipline. However…Golf is a rich person’s sport, to be able to afford a country club membership to play golf you had to be rich. Club membership fees range from US$2,000 to US$150,000 while day fees for non-members are also sky-high. In a country with a GDP per capita of US$ 2.052 (2014), playing golf is still something very far away for most people. It takes a few thousands dollars for a kid to learn how to play golf. So, is it possible for children whose parents are not rich to play golf? Yes, it’s possible, some lucky children in Vietnam are about to learn for free.
BRG Group – one of the leading investors in golf resorts in Vietnam and the Jack Nicklaus Academy of Golf – the most respected golf instruction program in the world have announced a strategic cooperation to bring more young people into the game and make golf as a sport in particular and golf industry in general in Vietnam to a new higher level. This is a social golf program that has never had in Vietnam so far, the aim of BRG VietGolf U16 program is to offer free golf lessons for Vietnamese children from 8-16 years old.
“We can sponsor the tuition and green fee. Parents only have to pay for other expenses such as food,” said Nguyen Thi Nga, chairwoman of BRG Group.
Through this program, under the support of Jack Nicklaus Golf Academy, BRG Group expects to attract young people of Vietnam to the game of golf and contribute to generally grow the participation in. This is an opportunity for BRG Group to discover hidden golf talents and develop them under BRG VietGolf U16 Junior Golf Team, reaching to further targets including Vietnam Amateur Open tournament, and then nourishing these talents to develop a team to take to ASIAD 19 golf event that will take place in 2023. Continuing to foster these seeds to find and develop a golf player good enough to compete on a major professional tour like Asian Tour, European Tour, US Tour by 2025.
The Jack Nicklaus Golf Academies are scheduled to be built across Vietnam to provide world-class training for local golf enthusiasts. BRG plans to build four Jack Nicklaus Academies throughout Vietnam: two in Hanoi and Hai Phong city in the north, one in Da Nang city in the central region, and the other in Ho Chi Minh City in the south. All golf academies will be equipped with the academy’s global-standard facilities and curricula.
