October 24th, 2015, top five Vietnamese winners of TP Bank Amateur World Golfers Championship Vietnam 2015 at Heron Lake Golf Course & Resort, Vinh Phuc will represent for thousands of Vietnamese amateur golfers at the World Amateur Golf Championship which will be held at Belek Antalya, Turkey from November 28th – December 5th.
After two qualifying rounds which were held at Vietnam Golf & Country Club on September 26th for Southern golfers and Dailai Star Golf & Country Club on November 3rd for Northern golfers. 45 winners of the two qualifying rounds were grouped into the five handicap categories (0-5, 6-10, 11-15, 16-20, 21-24).
At Heron Lake Golf Course & Resort, 45 amateur golfers come from all over the country played in the final round with a dream to book five places for the World Amateur Golfers Championship 2015. After one day of competition, five golfers: Do Viet Hung, Luu Xuan Loc, Phan Thanh Hai, Nguyen Hong Ngan and Nguyen Nhu Nguyet beat other 40 golfers to be the winners of their handicap categories.
“Many golfers are outstanding and I had to work hard for a win,” Hung said after his victory.
“It will be more difficult in Turkey where competitors play for several days in a row. My teammates and I will have to train to build a better physique and hope to bring the beautiful playing style of Vietnamese golfers to the international arena and contribute to promoting culture exchanges between players from Viet Nam and other countries” he said.
Founded in 1995 by Sven Tumba, one of the most prominent sports icons throughout time, representing Sweden in ice-hockey, soccer, as well as golf. WAGC is now considered the world’s largest amateur golf championship with the participation of teams from more than 40 countries.
Vietnam started to participate in organising WAGC since 2011 with the support from Heineken Beer, where its previous events were called “Heineken World Golfers Championship” in which amateur golfers in Vietnam not only have the opportunity to participate in the golf tournament but also have chance to compete with amateur golfers from many countries. Tien Phong Joint Stock Commercial will be the organiser of the tournament which is called “TPBank World Amateur Golfers Championship – Vietnam” for the period 2015-2017.
In addition to the 1st prize of each categories, in the final round, the prize “Longest Drive Man” belonged to golfer Nguyen Nam Phuong, “Nearest to the Line” of Truong Van Chuong and 3 golfers: Bui Duc Phuc, Do Loc, Phan Van Duc were awarded the prize “Nearest to the Pin”.
