Young golfer Nguyen Thao My won the Junior Golf Champion Ship in Thailand

Windsor Park and Country Club – Bangkok, October 22nd 2015, after two days of competition, the Vietnamese young golfer Nguyen Thao My won the 1st prize at Qualifying Round Junior Golf Championship 2015 with a total score of 144, eleven shots ahead of second-placed golfer.

On the first day of competition, the 17-year-old Vietnamese golfer finished the round with a 1-over-par 73 for the championship. But she managed to get a better result on the second round at 1-under-par 71 having two birdies. After two rounds of play, Thao My finished with a 36-hole total of 144 to become the winner of the Bangkok Junior Championship 2015.

According to Mr Nguyen Huy Tien, the winner’s father: “Eventhough this championship is not really important, the things that make me happy is that my daughter’s perfomance was strong and stable after during two days of competition”

The special thing is My played from white tees with the length is 6,400 yards which is the same with the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) course lengths.

“At the B2 hole, she had to take 4 putts to get the ball into the hole. If she had not made this mistake, the results could have been better” Mr Huy Tien said. After 36 holes of golf, My had 4 birdies, 2 bogeys and 1 double bogey.

Thao My’s elder brother – golfer Huy Thang also took part in this tournament. After two days, he was in top ten of blue tee with the total score is 159.

This Qualifying Round at Winsor Park and Country Club – Bangkok that Thao My is the winner belongs to Mercedes-Benz Junior Golf Championship.

The championship comprises of 7 qualifying rounds with the winners entering the Masters Final which will be held at Burapha Golf & Resort from 8th – 10th June, 2016. Qualification for the Masters Final will be based on points scored during the 7 qualifying rounds. To qualify for the Masters Final, a golfer must complete a minimum of 3 qualifying rounds, the top finishing will represent the Mercedes-Benz team at an international overseas golf tournament in 2015.

By winning at the qualifying round in Bangkok, Thao My added 100 points in her pocket. After this championship, Thao My will come back Vietnam to take part in the Vietnam Ladies Amateur Open Championship which will be held at Da Lat Golf Palace from October 30th. After that, on June 5th, she will attend the Singha Thailand Junior World Golf Championship with the participation of many professional golfers from Europe and Asia.
