“Swing For Life” Charity Golf Tournament

On August 27, 2015, the 16th “Swing for Life” charity golf tournament was successfully held at Vietnam Golf & Country Club with more than 250 participating golfers to mark Vietnam’s National Day (September 2nd) and fundraise for charity. The annual golf tournament is organized by Saigon Golf Association, Vietnam Golf and Country Club and the Sponsoring Association for Poor Patients. This is the 16th consecutive years, SPVB has accompanied the tournament as a diamond sponsor.

This year’s event was to raise money for the Hoa Xuan Tay Nursery School in the southern province of Phu Yen. This is a coastal province in the South Central Coast of Vietnam where natural disasters such as typhoons and floods occur almost every year that causing great damage to property, seriously affecting people’s livelihoods as well as damaging furnitures, equipments, books and other school property. Supporters and sponsors donated the total amount of money over 1.2 billion VND to the Swing For Life charity fund to build 2 new kindergarten classrooms that meet national standard in Hoa Xuan Tay, Dong Hoa District, Phu Yen province.

Ten years since its inception in 2000, the Swing for Life golf tournament has raised 15 billion dongs for community projects such as buying emergency cars for Humanitarian Blood Donation Program, wheelchairs for disabled people, supporting eyes operations for more than 1,800 sight-impaired children and heart surgeries for disadvantaged children, building clinics in rural areas nationwide, buying equipment for medical centres in the Truong Sa (Spratly) and Hoang Sa (Paracel) islands and installing the solar powered electrical system for the DK1 platform in Truong Sa.

Most golfers are members of the Saigon Golf Association, some come from cities and provinces such as Hanoi, Danang, Nha Trang, Dalat, Dong Nai and Song Be. In addition, some foreign golfers coming from Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Korea joined the fundraiser.

There are three divisions for men, one for ladies and one Callaway Division. In addition to the usual prizes include Best gross, 1st 2nd 3rd in A, B, C, Ladies and Callaway Division, Closest to the pin,  Longest Golf Drive, two player who make a hole in one on the will receive a Mercedes Car worth $100,000. The award ceremony was held at the five-star hotel Park Hyatt Saigon the same evening. Golfer Nguyen Quang Huy won the Best Gross prize in the standard round of golf.
