SPE Golf And Tenis Tournament 2015 – The Vietnam’s Oldest Charity Tournament

November 7th, 2015, the 15th annual charitable SPE Golf and Tennis Tournament took place at Vung Tau Paradise Golf Resort with the participation of 440 golfers and over 100 tennis players. In the history of the tournament, the Vung Tau Paradise Golf Resort has been proud to host the tournament for 13 years. Since its first event in 2000, the charitable golf and tennis tournament has been held successfully for 15 years, making it one of golf’s most notable tournaments in Vietnam. The tournament took place over 3 days from November 5th – 7th, attracting a lot of golf and tennis players to the event. The vast majority of these participants those working within the Vietnam’s oil and gas industry, several golfers and tennis players have been attending the tournament for multiple times.

The official sponsors of the tournament: PV Gas, PVDrilling, Oil States, Vietsovpetro, PVD Baker Hughes, PVEP helped make this event a wonderful success.

This is a “Declared Handicap Tournament” with a maximum handicap of 27 for men and a maximum handicap of 36 for women. The golf portion of 2015’s event was played as a 4-ball Texas Scramble. Consequently, only 4-ball teams eligible to win the tournament. In the event that a team begins play on Nov 5th as a 4-ball team and later becomes a 3-ball team or less, those teams will also be ineligible for the results of the overall tournament. There are special skill holes associated with the golf event as follows: – Longest Drive – Nearest to the Pin – Longest putt.

The success of SPE Golf & Tennis event means that the section is able to support more student scholarships and valuable charitable activities in Viet Nam. Year on year the Committee strives to improve its fund raising activities as well as cost saving on the organization. The aims is to allocate the tourney’s proceeds to primarily support the local education to meet the higher level of industry requirements.

At the 2015 event, over 200 milion dongs was raised during two days of competition to the SPE charitable fund. Several directly projects run by the SPE Charity sub-committee (examples: a bi-monthly Vung Tau beach cleaning; bicycles to elementary students, helmets and school book donations; and building school libraries and classrooms in remote areas).
