During two days: December 11th-12th, the Conference of Vietnam Golf Association (VGA) was successfully held at Long Bien Golf Club (Ha Noi) with the participation of 120 represents of provinces’ and cities’ golf associations, golf clubs and golf courses throughout the country to elect new chairman and members for the VGA Council for 2015-2019 period.
This time’s conference to evaluate the performance of the association during the second period (2011-2015) and to suggest the orientation activities for the 3rd period. Besides, the conference also modified, completed the VGA’s Charter operations and elected the new council for the third period 2016-2019.
According to the results of the vote, Mr Le Kien Thanh will become the new chairman and Mr Nguyen Van Cuu will be the Secretary General of Vietnam Golf Association 3rd period. The new council consisting of 46 members representing for all golf associations of provinces and cities in Vietnam.
“During the third period, there are two most significant missions that the new council have to do Firstly, bringing golf to many people, places in Vietnam to find new talented players as golf is currently something still unknown to many people. Secondly, hosting charity events and golf tournaments to raise funds for their communities, especially in the case of resort owners, club professionals.” The new chairman said.
Vietnam Golf Association has been officially founded in 2007, VGA is commissioned by the Vietnam Ministry of Culture Sports and Tourism. The association delivers the highest management responsibilities for golf events and administration throughout Vietnam. Since 2007, it has been central to the growth and development of golf in Vietnam.
During four years of the 2nd period, VGA established a complete competition system with 4 offcial tournaments for all the different age categories: Middle-aged Viet Nam Golf Tournament, Vietnam National Junior Golf Championship, Vietnam Ladies Golf Open Championship and Vietnam Golf Open Championship. Besides, VGA cooperated with many golf clubs to organize many golf tournaments to raise funds to help people with disabilities, poor people, Agent Orange victims and soldiers who defend national sovereignty over sea and islands.
There is still a lot of work for the VGA to do. One of the most important developments for the VGA moving forward is to create a National Handicap System that would govern all players in Vietnam. For the development of the game and to ensure that the VGA is in line with the Amateur Golf Bodies in the World, the introduction of a National Handicap system is very important.
